About Neural Network Therapy®
What is Neural Network Therapy®?
Neural Network Therapy® is a therapeutic approach designed to reprogram the brain for optimal mental health. Developed based on neuroscience data surrounding the neuroplasticity of the brain (the brain’s ability to rewire old patterns and learn new habits), Neural Network Therapy® is an education-based approach that empowers clients to transform their mental health through adaptive skills and strategies.
Blending counselling principles with uniquely designed educational exercises, Neural Network Therapy® provides a practical, holistic approach with the goal to boost mood, reduce anxiety, break unwanted habits and develop strong, healthy relationships. Unlike traditional talk therapy, which can be ongoing for years, Neural Network Therapy® aims to provide a shorter-term, longer-lasting solution that equips clients with the knowledge and tools they need to achieve positive mental health and well-being over the lifespan.
“A neural network is a habit that’s formed in the brain that determines the way we think and behave. Once programmed, neural networks can be difficult to break, which is why many feel stuck in states such as anxiety, depression or anger. Fortunately, we can intervene and create new neural pathways that support feel-good emotions. Neural Network Therapy® teaches us how to do just that.”
-Kim Sargent Founder of Neural Network Therapy® and Clinical Director of Canadian Family Health Counselling
Benefits of Neural Nework Therapy®
Traditional psychotherapy often ranges from 3-5 years to be considered effective; In contrast, Neural Network Therapy® possesses long-term sustainability with a short-term counselling timeframe of 4-6 months.
As compared with traditional therapy, Neural Network Therapy® provides a more holistic, engaging, and playful approach that uses psychoeducation to treat the client. Rather than focusing on dysfunctional thoughts, Neural Network Therapy® works to improve all aspects of a client’s lifestyle, with 76% of clients reporting lasting changes.
A 2022 Trent University study demonstrated that 88% of clients improved markedly on measures of health and wellness, life balance and relationships following Neural Network Therapy®.
In a recent study, psychological distress post-therapy for Neural Network Therapy® clients was less than that of CBT clients, suggesting that Neural Network Therapy® may possess a greater ability to lessen client problems while optimising client well-being.
Thousands of clients have experienced the benefits of Neural Network Therapy® since its inception in 1997. The most significant referral source is those who have found success firsthand with Family Physicians in close second.
As the demand for Neural Network Therapy® increases, the Emotional Health Practitioner Program through Trent University alumni grows and practitioners across Canada and beyond offer services in private practice.
Neural Network Therapy® sessions average $155 for each 50 minute appointment. If attended at its maximum, the entire approach delivered in 6 months of weekly sessions would cost $3720 with life-long lasting benefits. In substantial contrast, traditional talk therapy at is minimum averages 3 years weekly with a low range of $155 for each 50 minute session with a cost of $24,180. Sadly, not only do the benefits of talk therapy typically last only during the time someone spends in active care, but the repetition of negative experiences can actually produce a more engrained emotional patterning. We can retraumatize in the simple act of retelling events.
“Neural Network Therapy® focuses on neuroplasticity, or changing the brain, to modify patterns of brain activity that lead to negative experiences. NNT helps clients understand their brain function while developing mindfulness and behavioural skills, which helps them rewire brain patterns that lead to negative thoughts, emotions and behaviours.”
